Co-Regulation for Caregivers and Educators

A 2-hour, OT-led workshop with three months of follow-up supervision that builds the capacity of the adults around your children. When adults co-regulate well, children learn to self-regulate.

It starts withA regulated, attuned adult
Who offersCo-regulation in everyday moments
So children buildTheir own self-regulation
And arrive at schoolReady to play, learn and connect
Why co-regulation

Children borrow calm from the adults around them

The Australian Early Development Census continues to show that children from communities experiencing disadvantage are more likely to start school developmentally vulnerable in Social Competence and Emotional Maturity. The most powerful protective factor is a regulated, responsive adult in the child's life.

This workshop closes the gap between what the evidence says works and what happens in the busiest parts of the kinder day. Because it builds the skills of the adults, the benefit carries over to every future cohort.

Built for the moments that test everyone's regulation, not just the calm ones.

Two workshops, distinct content

One for your team, one for your families

The workshop is reflective, so educators and caregivers attend separate sessions. Book one or both. Running both gives children the same language and strategies at kinder and at home.

For educators

Educator workshop + supervision

2-hr workshop3 × 60-min supervision~5 hrs total
  • A deeper understanding of social-emotional development and co-regulation
  • Shared team language for planning, documentation and everyday moments
  • Confidence to be a "first responder" rather than reacting to escalations
  • Concrete strategies for transitions, mealtimes, group time, peer conflict and big feelings
  • Awareness of their own dysregulation triggers, with practical strategies to manage them
  • Stronger, evidence-informed justification for QIP entries and VEYLDF reflection
For parents and carers

Caregiver workshop

2-hr workshopWorkbook included
  • Understanding social-emotional development and co-regulation
  • Permission to see themselves as their child's regulator, not their child's corrector
  • Scripts and language for co-regulating during everyday moments
  • Sensory, calming and mindfulness strategies to regulate themselves first
  • Shared language with their child's kinder for consistency between home and kinder
For leadership

A way to embed it, and evidence that it worked

Nominated Supervisors and Educational Leaders join the three supervision sessions, receive a fidelity checklist for ongoing coaching, and get measurement tools and a self-evaluation framework to evidence impact for your QIP and Department reporting.

Your service

Leader-embedded language

How to book through your SRF plan

To run a workshop in a given term, let us know at least 4 weeks before the end of the term before. That lets us block whole days and group regional visits.

  1. Add it to your SRF plan

The item must be in your service's approved SRF plan before it can be booked with SRF.

  2. Express interest

Tell us which workshop, roughly how many people, and your preferred term.

  3. Get your quote

Our Workshop Coordinator confirms dates, travel and any pooling with nearby services.

  4. Confirm with a deposit

A 25% deposit secures your date. The balance is due 14 days before.

  5. Workshop and follow-up

We deliver the workshop, then schedule supervision sessions at times that suit your team.

FAQ

Good to know before you enquire

Do we need an approved SRF plan first?
Yes. To use School Readiness Funding, this item needs to be in your service's approved SRF plan. You're welcome to express interest while your plan is being finalised so we can pencil in a term.
Can we share a workshop with other kindergartens?
Yes, and we encourage it. Pooled services share the workshop delivery cost. Supervision is invoiced to each centre separately, and travel is shared or proportioned between services.
Is this an incursion for the children?
No. It's a capacity-building program for the adults: educators, leaders, parents and carers. It doesn't target individual children and doesn't replace individual allied health assessment.
Can we have it online?
Yes. Face-to-face is preferred because it allows more relational learning and role-play, but live online delivery over Zoom includes the full workshop content, workbook, outcome measures and fidelity checklist.
How many people can attend?
A minimum of 6 and a maximum of 50 per workshop. For larger groups, we'll provide a quote.
What do we need on the day?
A room that seats everyone, tables, a whiteboard or flipchart and a projector. No prior knowledge is needed. We supply the workbooks, handouts and fidelity tools electronically, and printed colour workbooks are available for $25 each.
Can families with English as an additional language take part?
Yes. The workbook uses plain English and inclusive imagery, and the workshop can be adapted with interpreter support on request.
Who attends the supervision sessions?
Educators along with your Nominated Supervisor and Educational Leader. There are three 60-minute online sessions, one each month for three months after the workshop, scheduled at times that suit your team.
What if something goes wrong or we have a concern?
Contact our Workshop Coordinator first and we'll work to resolve it directly. If it isn't resolved, our Practice Manager will review it with you.
